Image Palette Extractor
Pull the dominant colours out of any photo and get the exact hex, RGB and HSL values with the share of the frame each one covers. Also builds complementary, analogous and triadic harmonies from the strongest colour.
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP up to 12 MB. Only a screen-sized copy is kept while you work, and it's deleted automatically.
Your file is processed on the server and deleted immediately after the result is generated. Nothing is stored, logged or shared.
Frequently asked questions
How does it decide which colours are dominant?
It samples the image on a grid and groups every pixel into a colour bucket, then counts them. Buckets holding the most pixels become your swatches, and near-identical colours are merged so you get one blue rather than five shades of it. Each swatch is the mean colour of everything that landed in its bucket.
How are the percentages worked out?
Once the swatches are chosen, every sampled pixel is attributed to whichever swatch it sits closest to, so the figures add up to 100% and describe how much of the frame each colour covers. Near-identical buckets are merged into the same swatch rather than competing with each other. Fully transparent pixels carry no colour, so they are skipped and images with large transparent areas will not total 100%.
Will the extracted colours match my brand colours exactly?
Rarely. Cameras render light, they do not measure reflectance, so a photographed logo comes out shifted by the lighting it was shot under. Use this to find candidate colours and generate palettes, then confirm the final value against the original brand asset.
Is my photo stored anywhere?
No. The upload is decoded once, downscaled to a screen-sized working copy kept in a private folder outside the web root, and swept automatically. Nothing is logged or shared.
